Security and network infrastructure
CIVIC has access to multiple datacentres and therefore can offer our clients multiple sites for their hosting as required to meet their business needs. Below are some features of our hosting platform:
- Mains power provided from two independent Scottish Power sub-stations via UPS and supplemented by Battery rooms within the datacentre facility.
- Multiple diesel generators are used in the event of mains power becoming unavailable. These generators can be re-fuelled whilst in continuous operation with fuel supply provision at the same priority level as the local emergency services in each location.
- Physically located in the most secure area, in the centre of the building. This ensures there are no external walls that could be breached from the outside.
- Double steel doors for access on an air-lock basis. Both doors cannot be opened simultaneously.
- Access is controlled using proximity cards issued to authorised personnel only.
- CCTV cameras are located throughout the facility and in the vault. Digital CCTV feeds are recorded and archived for added security.
- Faraday cage to prevent any radiological transfer in or out.
- Multiple Denco air handlers in a redundant configuration enabling N+1 cooling capability in the event of failure in any one of the devices.
- An FM200 gas fire suppression system is installed.
- Power, cooling and fire suppression systems monitored on a 24/7 basis by on-site staff.
- Multiple network connections from different suppliers ensure the redundancy of our Internet connectivity.
- All servers and services hosted by Civic are monitored and relevant alerts are issued to staff on call via multiple means (email, text message, internet messaging) should any hardware or software issue arise.
- All data an all servers is backed up nightly using a tape library with redundant tape drives. Most backup tapes are kept available in the tape library for approximately three months, with regular off-site archival for added security.
- Our hosting network is protected by multi-tier, redundant firewalls providing a bespoke solution for protection against external threats. We offer our clients with dedicated servers the option of a highly-secured, isolated DMZ for security-critical applications.
